Frequently Asked Questions

Sally believes success is all about confidence and ongoing support. It is vital to prepare for infant feeding prior to delivery through the prenatal education course. Additionally, it is recommended that the mother and infant are seen 2-5 days after delivery and the following week to ensure milk supply is increasing and infant is gaining proper weight. Beyond the first couple of weeks, Mamilla offers support when/if the initiation of bottles and pumping is desired, when mom is preparing to return to work, when baby begins eating solid foods, and if mother needs support during weaning. There may also be times where mother faces specific challenges that require other "situational" visits.

New or current patients of The Children's Clinic of Nashville that are seen in clinic by Sally are able to use insurance as a form of payment. Fortunately, most insurance companies now offer lactation benefits. For patients that are not established with The Children's Clinic of Nashville or those that desire a concierge experience, payment is accepted in full at the time of service. Payment will also need to be provided to successfully register for the prenatal class.

If you are coming to the clinic for your visit, please bring any products you are currently using or interested in using to support your breastfeeding journey. This may include an electric pump, a manual pump, a silicone milk catcher, nipple shields, or a bottle. It is not necessary to bring a nursing pillow. It is helpful if the baby arrives hungry (1.5-2 hours since last feed), but this can be challenging to time perfectly! We can always adjust our approach in response to baby's cues and needs.
